Vermont’s Destination Management Strategic Plan is Coming Together

Tell Us Your Thoughts!

Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing has been working with the Coraggio Group for the last 7 months to develop a Destination Management Strategic Plan for the state of Vermont. Receiving feedback from residents, industry partners, and community leaders has been crucial to every step of this process. For the next step, we are asking once again for your feedback to ensure the final plan is comprehensive, inclusive, and reflective of our community’s needs and aspirations.

The plan is currently organized around 4 Imperatives, which are high-level goal statements that try to articulate “What must be accomplished over the planning horizon?” Under each Imperative, there are a number of proposed Initiatives that describe distinct projects or programs that could be undertaken to help achieve or advance those overarching Imperatives that have been identified. Once these Imperatives and Initiatives are solidified, additional details will be added to the plan, including Objectives identifying measures of success and Action Steps for different entities within the tourism industry.

We are eager to hear your thoughts and opinions about these ideas being considered for the strategic plan. Are we on the right track with the Imperatives and Initiatives? Which resonates the most? Is anything missing? Thank you in advance for your time and participation.

SURVEY DEADLINE: Friday, July 18.

Vermont Visitor Survey Reminder: Materials Available to Share

As we have shared previously, the Department of Tourism and Marketing is conducting a year-long Visitor Profile Study of visitors to Vermont, led by Downs & St. Germain Research. While there are researchers around the state conducting in-person intercept surveys, we are encouraging tourism properties and attractions to help spread the word that online surveys are also being collected. Downloadable posters, postcards, and table tents are available for any tourism businesses willing to help us reach more visitors. Your efforts to help us gather data on the characteristics, perceptions, and behavior of Vermont visitors is greatly appreciated, especially now during the busy summer season.

Volunteer at The Big E

The Big E is New England’s Great State Fair, hosted in West Springfield, Mass., and takes place this year from Sept. 12 through Sept. 28. The Department of Tourism and Marketing is looking for volunteers to help staff the Vermont Tourism Booth in the Vermont Building.

This is a high-impact, low-cost chance to promote your tourism business. You can volunteer for one shift (or more) and each day is split into two shifts, one from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and one from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. Not only will you be sharing your passion and knowledge of Vermont during your shift, but we will distribute your print collateral for all 17 days of the fair. For more information on this opportunity to bring a lot of visibility to your business, please email Katharine Ingram.

Reminder: Help Us Shape a Possible “Neighbor Pass” for Canadian Visitors

We’re continuing to explore the Neighbor Pass, a potential new program to encourage cross-border travel by offering exclusive perks to Canadian visitors — and we’re still gathering interest from Vermont businesses and organizations who may want to participate.

The idea: Canadians show proof of residency or a valid passport and receive a special offer — a discount, free item, or custom package — from participating businesses like yours.

If you haven’t yet filled out the short survey, we’d love your input. Your response will help us determine next steps. Thanks again to everyone who has already responded, and for helping us roll out a warm welcome to our neighbors to the north.
